Turkey May 2001
This years holiday trip has gone to Tekirova, a little town near Kemer in southern Turkey. A little bit of ham radio activity should also be included, as the hotel was of type 'all inclusive'.....
Enjoying all the club's facilities made it hard to find a little spare time for making QSOs. But wheater brought some heavy rain a few times, so I was able to make my desired contacts without to much discussions, mainly with my son,hi. The disadvantage of this method is, that I had to go QRT very often due to heavy lightening. The hotel's generator needed only 5 seconds going into service in case of power failure, a really often needed feature!
Putting up the antenna took about 30 minutes, I mounted the G5RV again on a 6m fiberglass mast. As I had mountains up to 2000 meters looking to europe and north america did not make me very optimistic, when I saw the really poor antenna contruction beside the bungalow. Nevertheless I was surprised to make contacts to europe an far east without any big problems, especially JA signals were extremly loud.
More than 2000 QSOs were made - only CW.
